Mud Morganfield and Kim Wilson - For Pops

Severn Records, 2014 (available 8/19/14)

This album brings together two great talents and demonstrates that the whole is clearly greater than the sum of its parts. Mud Morganfield, first-born of the legendary Muddy Waters, teams up with harmonica virtuoso Kim Wilson to deliver some stunning cover versions of blues classics originally recorded by Mud's famous father. The album includes songs written by Muddy, Willie Dixon, St. Louis Jimmy Oden, and a few other songwriters - which are turned into new pieces of art as Mud and Kim work in tandem to make magic with the music.

Listening to Mud singing songs like "I Love the Life I Live", "Trouble No More" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You", it's hard to remember that the voice isn't Muddy's. Mud does his father proud, singing the songs in an eerily similar voice but with his own stamp on the songs. And, of course, the famous Kim Wilson harmonica accompaniment adds the icing to the cake. Highly recommended for all Muddy Waters fans, music lovers, and blues enthusiasts in general.
